Hollywood to Housewife: Head to Toe White

I have always loved the all white look but was never really sure how I wanted to pull it off. When I was looking for inspiration for this week's Hollywood to Housewife I stumbled on a picture of Alexa Chung sporting white overalls and a white shirt. I loved the look of it paired with a trench coat and cognac shoes.

I knew I didn't have overalls, and didn't want to purchase any. I knew I probably wouldn't wear them that much so it totally wouldn't be worth it. With no overalls, I grabbed my white jeans, current fave white top, trench coat and cognac espadrilles and hit the pavement (sans cigarette she has, of course)!

White jeans can be tough sometimes. While it is such a basic color, I personally have a hard time pairing them with the kinds of tops I would wear with a basic pair of jeans. I don't think I will ever refer to white jeans as my "go-to" but it is a nice change from you basic blue jeans. Because I feel like white jeans show everything I prefer to wear them with longer, and if possible, flowier tops. I just feel more comfortable that way!

I will say though, I do enjoy the head to toe white...there is a chance I may rock this look again!

Spring Trends Under $30

There are so many spring trends that I am loving right now. The thing with trends is though, some of them don't stick around for more than a season (although there are some that prove me wrong).

Because most trends are just that-trends-I don't like to spend too much money on them. I would much rather invest my money on something that will be in style season after season.

Because there are so many spring trends out there that I can't get enough of, I put together a small spring trend guide- and nothing is over $30!

I made sure to include all of the it items that we've been seeing: pompom details, off the shoulder looks, espadrilles, crochet, tassels, and even the huarache style sandals that I know I wore when I was younger!

I love everything. Everything. I really can't get enough of tassels and pompoms! I wasn't sure how I felt about the whole kerchief trend coming back (should have kept the ones I had when I was younger) but it is slowly growing on me! I've mentioned before how the whole off the shoulder trend keeps making its way into my closet (here, here, here, here and here) but add a little pompom detail and I love it even more!

I will say that the Target tote is $34, which obviously is more than $30, but I couldn't pass it up. Plus, with their discounts and if you have a Target card, chances are it will be less than $30! At least that's my reasoning for including it! HA!

Off the Shoulder Date Night

As much as I despise wearing a strapless bra, I do love the look of off the shoulder anything. There is something about it that I am drawn to for some reason. My best friend and I always used to say fashion before function, so I guess that saying rings true when sporting the off the shoulder trend. As much of a pain strapless bras can be, I just make the sacrifice and deal with it to pull of the off the shoulder look I love!

This dress caught my eye a few weeks ago when I was out and about with Charlotte. Not having the time to try it on I just tossed a large into my cart and went on my way. Fast forward a few weeks later, I try it on before I am ready to head out to dinner with Ryan for our anniversary (yay for being married 11 years!!!) and it's just a tad too big! I felt like it was do-able but I 100% could have sized down, so my recommendation is to possibly size down- try it on in store if you can before you buy!

But I will say, the style of this dress makes for a super cute, flowy look. It is quite comfortable and it can also be worn on the shoulders which is nice, especially if you don't want to deal with a strapless bra!

For a more casual look this would look cute with a flat pair of sandals and a panama hat-a look I know I will be sporting at some point in the near future!

Hollywood to Housewife: Denim on Denim

Happy Friday! This week's Hollywood to Housewife is a super casual look from Jessica Alba. Although I love it on her, I wasn't 100% sold on it on me....I kind of felt like a mom in it at first. I know-I am a Mom. But anyone who is a Mom can probably relate to my thought. Although I am a Mom, I don't want to look like a typical Mom. Sounds weird I am sure, but whatever.

The more I wore it though, the more comfortable and less "mom" I felt in it-you really can't go wrong with a basic chambray. I would go far enough to say it is a closet staple- if you don't own one, you need to! You can find them in various washes, and prices-they are quite easy to find!

Pairing denim on denim can be kind of tricky sometimes. One thing you have to make sure (really, the only thing) is that the washes are different shades. Pairing a denim top and bottom that are the same shade just doesn't look good together (in my opinion). I prefer a super light wash (like my jeans) and a medium wash. That's just a personal preference!

In these pictures my jeans have a super light greenish tint to them-they aren't green. They are a very light wash. I think it was just the lighting. But I love how they look with the medium wash of my chambray!

Mommy in Heels on You Tube-Need Your Input!

Hey everyone! So...some exciting (and terrifying?) news! I will be officially launching a YouTube channel at some point in the near future. 

I have absolutely NO clue what I am doing when it comes to editing videos. I am talking NO.CLUE. Sooo....I am in the process of figuring out all of that technical junk.

BUT! In the meantime, I have been working hard to come up with some great content for you all. I would LOVE your input though. What would you like to see?

Also- just to let you know- I plan on keeping my videos somewhat short and sweet. I don't know about you, but when I see a video that is like 15 minutes I tend to skip through it a lot. With that in mind, short, sweet, and to the point! We've all got places to be!

Converse High Tops

I've always been a fan of Converse...I own a few (I need to add a pink pair to my must get list though!) and incorporate them into my wardrobe as much as possible. More recently though, the Converse High Tops have been on my mind! There were so many outfits I was planning in my head around these shoes-definite sign they needed to be mine!

This Jersey Swing Dress is a recent arrival at Elizabeth & West, which I knew would be so cute with my high tops!  Last summer I lived in jersey swing dresses. So comfortable. It was a relatively easy decision to start carrying them again this season- they can be pretty versatile and are flattering on a lot of different body types!

Hollywood to Housewife: Trench Coat

Yes ladies, Hollywood to Housewife is back. A couple of months ago I asked you, my readers what you would like to see more of on here and what I heard was to bring Hollywood to Housewife back (along with some video tutorials...I am working on it!).

I don't know why I ever stopped doing Hollywood to Housewife, to be honest, so it was kind of nice and refreshing to bring it back!

I wasn't sure what I was looking for when I was trying to pick my outfit, mainly because our weather here has been so weird lately. Warm one day, cold the next-annoying to say the least.

Because the weather has been so ridiculous I figured I would find an outfit with a basic, classic trench coat. A trench is something that never will go out of style, and can be a great transition piece when the weather is kind of cold but kind of warm. I also love it for its classy, put together feel. You could look like a hot mess under your trench, but toss that baby on along with some shades and a bold lip and you look like the most put together lady on the block!

When I saw this picture of Miranda Kerr, I knew this was the look! I had everything I already needed to recreate this look plus I knew it was something that I would normally wear-comfortable and stylish.

I hope to make this a weekly thing again, so plan on Hollywood to Housewife every Friday! I am sure most of you have these pieces, or similar in your closet now! I will share a few of my top trench coat picks....every gal needs one in her closet!

Instagram Roundup

Things have been totally crazy lately. If you follow my boutique on facebook at all, or follow me on snapchat (mommyinheels), then you know I am moving my store location (Elizabeth & West). It's right around the corner from my current space, but it needed a little bit of a facelift! Anyway, there has been a lot of work being done to the new space, so weekends have been filled with my husband/father in law/dad working their tails off getting things ready for my May 3rd opening. 

Needless to say, taking blog pictures has been put on the back burner on the weekends! Not to mention, the weather has been pretty ridiculous, so it's been hard to get some snaps in between snow, super cold temps, and insane wind gusts!

Basic

I've been struggling lately with my outfits. This time of year is so wishy-washy with the weather, that it's hard to plan around! Plus, I would imagine as my readers you don't have the need to see any more winter or cold weather looks. But most of you are probably in the same boat as me, in that you don't quite need full on spring looks because it is still so cold (I mean it did snow yesterday). 

That's where the struggle comes in. What the heck to wear? I am so tired of my winter clothes, but it's not warm enough to break out my spring/summer purchases just yet! Enter the most basic of all basic looks. You really can't go wrong with a plain white tee and the comfiest pair of sneakers. These sneakers seem to quickly be climbing the trend chart this season, and I can see why. They go with so much-I have certainly gotten a lot of wear out of mine since purchasing them back in January.
