Pop of Neon

So in celebration of the next installment of What She Wears this coming Tuesday (girls, get your NEON ready), I thought I would do a little post dedicated to just that: neon. When we first decided on neon, I thought its something that is doable for me, but maybe not for everyone. I am not a shy person, but I also don't need/want to wear something out in public that shouts "HEY EVERYONE LOOK AT ME I AM WEARING NEON." Not that I am important or have "model" looks enough for people to drop what they are doing and stare- that's just me being self conscious. :)

So without further adieu....here are a few different ways to incorporate neon in subtle ways!

You see....they aren't so bad, right? Believe it or not, you can still be subtle AND wear neon. It doesn't have to be something completely over the top circa the 1980's or like some sloppy wasted senior week beach goer all decked out in head to toe neon (have you see those before? I have...)

I have those sandals, and besides being cute, they are SO comfortable! And that clutch! Its handmade, you guys! Handmade! And what better way to brighten up a rainy day than with bright rain boots!

And seriously! Those earrings! I am telling you, Max and Chloe know their stuff! Hollywood to Housewife: Off White Blazer

Welcome to week eleven of Hollywood to Housewife, where I find a picture of a celebrity in an outfit I love (the "Hollywood"), and make it my own using pieces in my closet (the "Housewife"), and without making any new purchases.

Apparently I love Kourtney Kardashian. I find myself always being drawn to her! I was going to wear this blazer a couple of weeks ago, but the heat was just too much to handle. Looks like the heat isn't going anywhere, so I might as well embrace it, right? But really though, compared to other blazers, this one is pretty lightweight. Plus being that its short sleeved allows it to be a little bit more breathable than your average blazer. Plus, being that it is from Kohls it was such a steal!

Really, I don't know if that is a good or bad thing that I have a lot of similar pieces in my wardrobe as the Kardashians. We will go with a good thing....right? Right??

This is totally a look that I would wear on a daily basis. I am a sucker for a good blazer, as I am sure anyone who follows my blogs would know. Sometimes I think I may need an intervention because I have so many! They are just so perfect though! And with a neutral color like this, it can really be so versatile!! Thanks, Kourtney K for yet another fashion inspiration!

Nautical Prep

I felt like I needed to go boating in this outfit. Probably the anchor on the shirt, no? Target does it again with their awesomeness. I absolutely love their t shirts. Can't get enough of them.

This particular shirt is perfect (just like all of theirs, really) because I have worn it with leggings as a totally casual and comfy outfit, and of course with some skinny jeans and a cardi. I love the green against the heather blue of this shirt. It sort of adds to the whole nautical feel, which is perfect for this week, as I am at the beach with my parents and brother. Its just the girls and me, as Ryan stayed home to work (miss him terribly already!). Although its not the same without him, it is nice to get away for even a few days and spend some quality time with my family at the beach I grew up vacationing at every summer. Nothing beats skeeball, Thrasher's french fries and seagulls crapping on you :) (and shotty internet...which explains why there are only links to half of my look!)

Happy Monday, everyone! Can Monday's actually be happy? I wonder if it should be an oxymoron (you know, like jumbo shrimp!)?

Anyway, this weekend was absolutely wonderful. I went back home to Hollidaysburg for some family get togethers. You never really know how awesome your hometown is until you move away. All the more reason I love to go home and visit. I really didn't take too many pictures, although I don't know why! I even brought my camera, but it sat in my bag the whole weekend. But the weekend was filled with lots of family time and a great, long walk with an old friend!

My parents keep everything. Everything from old report cards of mine, to programs from my theater days. This Members Only jacket is no exception. I told my Mom I don't think my Dad realizes how cool it is! She even said she thinks it was my grandfather's! How awesome is that?!?!

Pretty sweet, isn't it? Love it! 

I had a great time visiting my family for my cousin's graduation (from college) party/uncle's 50th birthday. My family is so awesome...always have a great time when we are together. I could kick myself for not taking pictures while I was there other than capturing Charlotte and her distaste for grass....

This would be right after I sat her on the blanket (good call on bringing that, Laura). She realized she hates grass and is surrounded by it. She really isn't the priss she looks like she is in this picture! Not long (and a wardrobe change) after, she was loving it!

I just love the look of curiosity in an infant. Its so pure, isn't it? 

Now onto the super fun stuff! While home this weekend, my cousin and I did some quick shopping (its what we do best). We stopped by the cutest boutique and found some seriously cute things!! From just chatting with the owner, Tiffany and shopping, a new collaboration was born! I am SO excited to be working with her, so stay tuned over the next couple of weeks for an awesome giveaway from JEG Boutique! 

I cannot wait to show you what I purchased from her cute boutique-its going to be so much fun styling it! In the meantime, if you are in Hollidaysburg (PA) stop by her store on Montgomery St. If you aren't in the area, check out her website!!

I am off to the beach for a couple of days with my girls and my parents and brother! Hopefully I will be back with a great tan!!

Summer Nail Fun

Today is officially the start of summer! Yay! Bring on the sweltering heat and humidity (not an ounce of sarcasm in there whatsoever). I love sweating in places that I never though possible. 

I don't have all the time in the world to give myself a manicure. I know I have said that before! Ninety percent of the time that I do have nail polish on, its chipped. I can guarantee you that. But I was inspired the other day when reading some magazines (and also by my post last week) to get moving and do some fun things with my nails! I am totally into the trend of using more than one nail color...I just think it gives the look a little something extra! I paired some colors below that I think look great together!

What are your thoughts? Do you usually go all out with your nail color(s) or do you tend to keep it pretty neutral? I have found that my favorite neutral color is OPI's Sweetheart. It has always been my go to for when I want my nails to look decent but I am not feeling a color. Its the perfect shade!

Hollywood to Housewife: Orange Pants and a New Do!

Welcome to week ten of Hollywood to Housewife, where I find a picture of a celebrity in an outfit I love (the "Hollywood"), and make it my own using pieces in my closet (the "Housewife"), and without making any new purchases.

So lets first talk about the elephant in the room- yes, I darkened my hair just a tad (ok a lot). You guys, its dark. Like super dark. Its going to fade a little, like hair does most of the time, but for now its pretty dark. Its more brown looking in person than in the pics. It looks almost black in the pictures! I still don't recognize myself. I forget its darker and then all of a sudden I will catch a glimpse of my hair then do an "oh right I forget I am a brunette now!" 

I just wanted a change...I have been debating for months now as to whether or not I should go back to my natural (or close to it). My hair stylist (who is amazing by the way) convinced me to do it since I have been on the fence for so long about it! I am glad I did it- its nice to have a change! I am still not used to it yet, and I am pretty sure that just as I am getting used to it I will start the process to go back to blonde (that's what usually happens when I do this). I am sort of looking forward to the fact that it will be less maintenance at the salon too...kind of refreshing! In the meantime though...I am still adjusting to having such dark hair! I am getting a spray tan today to sort of tone down the fierceness of the hair color! Maybe once I get the spray tan, combined with the dark hair I will look like some exotic beauty or something? No? A girl can dream!

Anyway....onto this week's look. I found this pic of Naomi Watts in one of my old magazines (as I was going through them to toss). I swear in the mag her shorts were orange and her blazer navy blue. Awesome- I have all those pieces (except I don't do shorts)! I can't stand shorts. I think its mainly because I don't really care for my legs too much (or at all, really). I will wear shorter dresses but just won't do shorts! So anyway, I get all the outfit pieces together, get the pics, then try and find the pic online. Well crap! The shorts look red, and the blazer black! So, lets just pretend that her shorts and blazer are indeed orange and navy. Blame it on the lighting, folks!

What I Wore: Stripes and Neon

I have been loving all of the basic graphic t shirts that Target has right now. They are pretty comfortable, don't put a dent in the wallet, and can be pretty versatile (at least for me). Its easy for me to wear it how I am below, or with jeans and a cardi (which you will see next week with another Target graphic t shirt!)

One day as I was browsing the store for some band aids or something like that, I stumbled on this cute giraffe shirt ( you didn't know they kept the band aids in the women's clothing section? Well they do). Only $10? Done deal.

I absolutely love the touch of brightness that the neon shoes lend to the whole look, but I also love how laid back this outfit felt, which gave me the inspiration to change into my sneakers...adds a whole new feel to the whole outfit! I love those outfits that just require a shoe or accessory change to make it look completely different! Although the elastic in the skirt wasn't as flattering as I would have liked it to be (and I think I may have actually been able to go down a size), it was comfortable!

What This Purse Means to Me

I love a good bag, you guys. Plain and simple. I can't tell you how many times I have seen a purse and said how badly I wanted it. My husband's response? "How many purses do you need?" Well, there really is no technical answer to that, but I can say with confidence, its never enough. Its amazingly refreshing how something as simple as adding a new bag to your outfit can change the whole look and give you a little pep in your step. 

When I went to visit Arthur and Daughters (a local shop that has women's designer, consignment and vintage clothing and accessories) I saw this gorgeous Marc Jacobs bag and instantly fell in love.

What I love most about it is its vintage feel and the fact that I can picture both of my grandmother's sporting a bag similar to this back in their hay day. My grandmothers both always seemed so put together (one is still living, and despite her age and ailments, still remains as gorgeous and flawless as ever), always had lipstick applied, hair done, coordinating accessories. A bag like this would be the cherry on the sundae, the last piece to complete their outfit. I know it would be something that I would want as my own when I was little, something that would make me think "I can't wait to grow up so I can use a purse like that." (I always admired their jewelry, shoes, etc. when I was a little girl...still do!)

Every time I carry this bag, I think of both of my grandmothers (Grammy, in heaven, and Dede, alive and kicking!), their style, the way they carry themselves, their mannerisms, and it makes me smile. So this bag...this bag was definitely worth the purchase, and yes, one that I absolutely needed to have!
